My friends and I always joke that we are models in the wrong era. Women with beautiful curves and classic good looks were embraced by the fashion world in the 80′s-early 90′s and everyone had a supermodel they wanted to look like. As a kid I looked up to Christie Brinkley and Claudia Schiffer. To me they were IT, the perfect ideal of beauty. They had a relatable quality, had those great smiles, and their charisma showed through on camera.

The late 90′s followed and changed that face of beauty. Girls like Kate Moss and Shalom Harlow paved the way for a new kind of “waif” model to grace the runways. Our beautiful curvy women were seen less frequently and the girls got younger, and thinner as the years passed.

I am happy to say the fashion industry seems to be moving in the right direction. The models seen in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition are a bit like the old supermodels that were seen in the 80′s and early 90′s. Plus sized models are being shown in big magazine publications like Vogue and W and are slowly making their way back to the runways. It is so important we give young girls positive role models to aspire to become. Eating disorders are more and more prevalent because children and teenagers are watching celebrities and models rise to fame the thinner they get. If fashion designers make it their responsibility to show more “normal” sized girls on the runways or in ads then this may be all it takes to reignite the demand for the 80′s style supermodel. Here’s to hoping!

I am kind of a beauty product snob and I believe you get what you pay for when it comes to makeup. There are a few products that I would buy, if an emergency were to happen and I lost my makeup bag. Maybelline Great Lash mascara is one of those I would be happy buying. For me though, after trying many brands I have come to the conclusion that these are some of the best out there:

New models take note the first 5 items is all you need for castings.

1. Laura Mercier 15 SPF Tinted Moisturizer-MUST wear spf on your face every single day of the year, even cloudy days. Provides a nice even light coverage and pretty glow.

2. Bobbi Brown foundation stick-I only use this as a concealer for any uneven skin tone or blemishes. Works miracles I tell you.

3. Lancome Definicils Pro Black Mascara + Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler-long full curly lashes and will have people asking you “are you wearing fakes?”

4. Nars Laguna/Orgasm Blush and Bronzer combo-just the right amount of color and brightens up your face on sleepy mornings. Seriously looks good on everyone.

5. YSL Touche Eclat-fave product everrrr. If you have dark circles under your eyes this is your saving grace right here. Just make sure to apply to a moisturized area. If it is dry where you apply it will just get stuck in creases and look like wrinkles.

6. Victorias Secret Beauty Rush lip gloss- The first lip gloss I have ever found that is not sticky and thick and it lasts forever.

7. Lancome Eye Brow pencil- If you have some sparse spots in your eye brows fill them in with this super natural looking pencil. I’ve tried like 5 different brands and this one is by far beats the others because of the smooth application, staying power and natural look. Note: start at the tail and brush inward so it doesn’t look like a pencil drawn in.

8. MAC loose powder-covers up any oily spots without looking caked on.

9. Clean and Clear oil absorbing sheets for those hot summer days.

10. Dior waterproof eyeliner all colors. I also recently started using Makeup Forever eyeliner and I am hooked. It does not move all day.
